Edward Adam Burgess
Born October 28, 1899 to parents Adam William (1863) and Clara (Margaret Evangeline Clara (Fox)) Burgess in White, South Dakota as a 16 1/2 pound baby boy! He joined 5 older siblings (brothers Norman, John and Earl and sisters Florence and Agnes) and his father supported his family by working in Hardware (per 1900 census) and Banking (Cashier) (1910 census).
While unable to find exact enlistment documentation, documentation was found of Edward's return through Hoboken, N.J. on May 22, 1919 aboard the Manchuria St. Nazaire that sailed on May 11, 1919 and contained the sick and wounded passengers. Edwards illness that he was sent home for: VHD. MITRAL INF. (Mitral Valvular Heart Disease).
Once back in the area, records show that by July of 1919 he was living in Badger, SD. No other records are available and Edward died on March 12, 1924. He is buried in Fairview Cemetery.

Field Hospital No. 16 was a World War I field hospital that treated the sick and gassed:
Location: Ferme de Suippes, 1.2 miles south of the town of Suippes (Meuse Argonne Champange, )
Function: Treated the sick and gassed
Field hospitals were mobile units that provided medical care to soldiers on the battlefield. Their duties included triage, stabilization, and evacuation to base hospitals.
