Harold was born on February 27, 1896 and died from his injuries received during the Battle of Saint-Mihiel, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France on 2 Oct, 1918 at the age of 22.
Harold Dale Higgins was born in Iowa when his father, George M Higgins, was 24 and his mother, Ardella A (Mills), was 23. They lived in Hayes Township, Buena Vista, Iowa, in 1900 and Allison Township, Osceola, Iowa, 1910 per census records. During that time, he was joined by two brothers, Lloyd and Howard, and a sister, Iva.
His family moved to the White, South Dakota area between 1910 and 1917 and were farmers. On June 5, 1917 Harold was drafted for service in WWI. He served in the American Expeditionary Forces (A.E.F.) under General John Pershing. He died on October 2, 1918, in Saint-Mihiel, Meuse, France, at the age of 22, and is buried in Fairview Cemetery, White, Brookings County, South Dakota, United States.
