Alice Marie Demunck was born on February 8, 1902, in Jasper, Minnesota.She was the
daughter of Clementine (Taets) and Henricus DeMunck. Alice was born sixth in a family of  eight children. She attended a country school close to her home and completed her education to the 8th grade (finished in 6 years) where she was a very good student and won many spelling contests. Alice was a 5'2" tomboy with long black hair and dark brown eyes that enjoyed playing baseball and riding horses.

At the age of 18, she married Alphonse Peter Veire January 12, 1921, in Pipestone, MN. The couple had six children: Carol, Virgil, Loren, Lois, Patricia and Frances. In 1942, Alphonse purchased a 280 acre farm for $40 an acre southeast of Elkton, SD in Lincoln County, MN. Alphonse passed away in October of 1947 of encephalitis when Alice was 45 years old. In the spring of 1948, she started to farm for herself with the help of her two sons. In 1955, she sold the farm for $205 an acre and moved to Pipestone, MN. Alice passed away due to pancreatic cancer on September 5, 1975.
